The local government of Quezon City disbanded Tuesday the Task Force Disiplina, a special unit that enforces ordinances and public order, after one of its personnel gunned down three individuals, including a minor.
"Buwag na ang Task Force Disiplina, epektibo ngayong araw," the statement issued on Tuesday read.
(Task Force Disiplina is hereby disbanded, effective today.)
"Inatasan ni Mayor Joy Belmonte ang lahat ng miyembro nito na agad bumalik at mag-report sa Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), ang kanilang mother unit. Wala nang awtorisadong operasyon o pagroronda sa ilalim ng Task Force Disiplina," it added.
(Mayor Joy Belmonte has instructed all its members to immediately return and report to the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), their mother unit. There are no longer any authorized operations or patrols under Task Force Disiplina.)
The city government said all members of the task force can only remain serving for the DPOS once they pass a strict background check, neuropsychological examination, and drug test. They must also submit clearances from the National Bureau of Investigation and the police clearance.
Three friends, including a minor, were shot dead on Monday by an alleged drunk Task Force Disiplina member in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
Gunshots rang out around 2 a.m. on October 12, 2026, at a portion of Senatorial Road. An 18-year-old man was declared dead on the spot in front of a store, while two of his friends, aged 15 and 19, managed to run to a nearby street but later died.
CCTV footage captured the 38-year-old suspect walking while holding a gun. He was arrested during a pursuit operation by the police.
He did not directly admit to the crime, but said he would leave it to the court to decide whether or not he committed the act. He called the victims part of society's ills.
Further, the local government clarifies that no firearms are issued to any member of Task Force Disiplina. Among the city's personnel and force multipliers, only police officers are authorized to carry pests.
"Kasabay nito, inatasan ng alkalde ang Quezon City Police District, sa pamumuno ni P/General Chris Olazo, na agad paigtingin ang kampanya laban sa mga illegal firearms," the QC government said.
(Along with this, the mayor has instructed the Quezon City Police District, under the leadership of Police General Chris Olazo, to immediately intensify the campaign against illegal firearms.)
The public is also encouraged to immediately call Helpline 122 if there are uniformed Task Force Disiplina personnel continuing to patrol their barangay.
The public is also advised to report any information regarding civilians carrying or concealing suspected illegal firearms. — VDV, GMA News
