Downton Abbey star Matthew Goode's "excellent" rom-com is now streaming for free

Even the most hardcore Downton Abbey fans might have forgotten that Matthew Goode starred in a 2010 romantic comedy opposite Hollywood actor Amy Adams.

Leap Year follows a high-flying real estate worker who, after four years with her boyfriend, decides to fly to Ireland and propose on 29 February as per the country's tradition.

While there, she soon meets a local man in charge of a struggling pub, and you can imagine where it goes from there.

The film is currently available to stream for free on YouTube, as part of the platform's rotating library of films you can watch without paying (although you will encounter ads unless you are on YouTube Premium).

Other films currently free on YouTube include classic comedy The Birdcage, charming animation FernGully: The Last Rainforest (featuring the late Tim Curry voicing the villain), David Bowie's Labyrinth, heartfelt spoof Galaxy Quest, and Colin Firth's Oscar-winning The King's Speech.

At the time of writing, it looks like Leap Year is only available via YouTube and isn't included with any streaming subscriptions at the moment.

Of course, you can also purchase or rent it digitally from the usual places.

The film has a decent score of 6.5/10 on IMDb, based on the average score from 117,000 user ratings.

"Leap Year is an excellent romantic comedy", wrote one viewer, who compared it to the work of Doris Day and Audrey Hepburn. "Amy really has wonderful physical comedic skills but still allows her charm to come across."

Another said: "Yes, it is very predictable and formulaic. But sometimes you have to remember that in life there are established formulas because those formulas work. And Leap Year, for what it is intended to be, works."

"Goode and Adams are good together and, yes, there is a little bit too much Irish Tourism advertising going on, but still enough going on to keep us entertained", said a third. "Featherlight, yes, but so what? That's not always a bad thing."
