‘TAIWAN MODEL’: Foreign minister Lin Chia-lung said Taiwan aims to build a high-tech industry cluster in Miekinia to foster an investment environment

Taiwan and Poland are working on signing an agreement before the end of year to facilitate investment in the European nation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said on Monday.

Lin is leading a delegation to Poland, which visited a site in Miekinia in southwestern Poland where the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association has proposed building a technology park.

The delegation is working toward signing a memorandum of understanding with Poland to create a favorable investment environment for Taiwanese enterprises.

The delegation, which departed Taiwan on Saturday, attended the two-day Warsaw Security Forum, at which Lin yesterday delivered a speech titled “The Taiwan Model: A Trusted Partner for Europe’s Reindustrialization.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the delegation on Monday visited Miekinia to see the proposed Technology Park site.

The International Cooperation and Development Fund would collaborate with entities to acquire the site, Lin said in the statement.

He said the he goal is to provide comprehensive policy support and a cooperative framework, creating an investment environment with robust infrastructure for Taiwanese enterprises to invest in the region.

Lin attended briefings by the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, local government authorities and representatives from the special economic zone on infrastructure planning, including roads, and water and power supply for the site, the ministry said.

Poland is the largest economy in central and eastern Europe, with a strong industrial base, well-developed infrastructure and quality talent, making it an excellent gateway for Taiwanese companies to enter the European market, Lin said.

Having decades of experience in developing science parks, Taiwan aims to establish a high-tech industry cluster in Miekinia, covering fields such as advanced manufacturing, data centers, smart cities, electric vehicles, information and communications technology, and business services, he said.

During a luncheon hosted by the Miekinia Municipal Government, Pawel Gancarz, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, welcomed the delegation.

Lower Silesia is an economic powerhouse in Poland, with a strategic location that makes it an ideal choice for Taiwanese investment in Europe, the ministry said.

Miekinia Mayor Jan Marian Grzegorczyn, who visited Taiwan last month, believes the city would provide a stable investment environment for Taiwanese companies, the ministry said.
