Diablo Meets Dark Souls In New RPG You Can Play With Friends Now

As soon as I hear the word Diablo, I often have a Pavlovian response. I'm immediately whisked away to the days of 56K internet and tying up the phone line to play games online, specifically the original Diablo on PC. Now, the series has proliferated across almost every platform possible. Hundreds of dungeon delvers exist, but the name still signals quality.

Over on Steam, you can find an experience that aims to recreate some of the best times of classic dungeon crawling, with its own twist and signature personality. The best part? It's completely playable with up to seven other friends, forming a massive party to take down enemies.

Live now on Steam in Early Access, Dimraeth is a gorgeous-looking RPG that feels like an old-school classic. The premise is so on point, practically anyone can get into it: "A 1-8 player fantasy RPG set in a handcrafted pixel world. Build your hero across 8 races and 6 classes. Explore ancient lands, master elemental combat, forge relationships, and shape a stronghold to call home. Fight for the fate of Dimraeth either together or alone."

As for the game's development journey, it began in September 2025 with an open playtest. From there, it blossomed into a demo release in April 2026, then a Steam Next Fest demo in June of the same year, followed by an Early Access period in Fall 2026. After that, it'll get one more major update at some point in the future, followed by a full release, which is "TBA."

The game's Early Access period features three races (Elf, Minotaur, Human) and classes (Shadow, Mage, Brawler), taking place in the game's first Act, which consists of three chapters. Pets, elites, major bosses, building, and difficulty levels are already in the Early Access build, so it's pretty fully-featured.

Although Dimraeth is in Early Access, it currently has "Very Positive" reviews, with some fans really digging the customization: "Fun game, gameplay/combat feels really good. Skill tree variety feels good. It could use some more character customization art than just changing the model's colors. It needs more content and class/races added, which is being worked on. I've completed the game in 12 hours, boss mechanics feel good."

Others think it has potential, but needs more time in the oven, with extra content by the time 1.0 hits: "I think many, including myself, expected to have 8 races and 6 classes from start of EA, but as of writing this, there's 3 races and 3 classes. I think it's a bit odd to advertise something you have yet to put in the game, even if it's planned updates."

If you're remotely curious as an RPG fan, now is the time to check out Dimraeth on Steam. It might surprise you, and it can only get better from here as the team refines the game and adds more for the full launch.
