Federico Dimarco is fighting on three fronts after a quieter start to the season, just months after being named Serie A’s best player.
The Inter wing-back won the MVP award for 2025-26 after scoring seven goals and providing a record-breaking 18 assists. However, according to Tuttosport, via Calciomercato.com, his form has levelled off this term. He hasn’t played badly, but he isn’t at last season’s exceptional level.
Carlos Augusto has taken advantage. The Brazilian started brightly and kept his place after Dimarco picked up a minor injury before the Champions League clash with Real Madrid, which also forced him to miss Italy’s international break. Carlos Augusto is expected to start again against Fiorentina on Sunday.

Dimarco’s Italy place and Inter contract
Roberto Mancini is expected at San Siro, and Dimarco’s international place is also under threat. The Italy coach has switched to a back four, with Riccardo Calafiori currently first choice at left-back.
Tuttosport also raises the question of his contract. Dimarco earns €4m a year and expected a pay rise after last season, while Inter intend to trigger an option extending his deal from June 2027 to 2028.
His camp are reportedly asking for €6m a year, while Inter could offer €5m plus bonuses to reach an agreement.
