Missing Thai woman found strangled in Taiwan freezer

A missing 37-year-old Thai woman has ben found dead, strangled, in a suitcase in an office freezer in Taichung city, Taiwan, a week after her reported disappearance. Her Taiwanese boyfriend, 43, has been arrested and charged with her murder.

According to Channel News Asia and the Taipei Times, the body of the Thai woman, identified only as Arth, was found on Saturday in a suitcase placed in a freezer at a technology company in Taichung.

It was believed the body had been hidden there for a week. Her boyfriend, identified only as Wu, was arrested earlier on Saturday, and took police to the freezer.

Arth and Wu had reportedly started a relationship when he earlier visited Thailand. They had seen each other at times in either Taiwan or Thailand. The relationship had continued for about a year before her death.

Arth reportedly arrived in Taiwan on Sept 2. On Sept 12 Wu went to her hotel near Ximending, Taipei. He left the hotel the following day with a big suitcase. No one had since seen or been able to contact Arth.

Surveillance camera footage led local police to arrest Wu. He told police the woman wanted to end their relationship. He lost control and strangled her.

He put her body inside the large suitcase and took it to his office in Taichung. He placed it in the freezer, where it remained until police found it on Saturday, according to the reports.

According to Thai media, the victim was a native of Phimai district in Nakhon Ratchasima of northeastern Thailand. She was identified as Duangpon Arthan, 35.
