Indonesia signs cooperation, visa-exemption deal with Burkina Faso

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia signed a bilateral Framework Agreement for Cooperation and a mutual visa-exemption deal for diplomatic and service passport holders with Burkina Faso, on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.

The signing took place during a bilateral meeting between Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Burkina Faso's Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré on Friday (September 25), according to a press release from RI Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Alongside the cooperation framework, both nations agreed to expand technical cooperation, capacity building and business-to-business engagement, with Indonesian officials extending an invitation to Burkinabe delegates for the upcoming Trade Expo Indonesia scheduled for October 14–18.

The agreement comes as trade between the two nations saw a slight contraction this year.

According to Indonesian Trade Ministry data, Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports to Burkina Faso reached US$5.3 million from January to July 2026, down from US$5.8 million during the same period in 2025.

In a separate bilateral meeting, Foreign Minister Sugiono spoke with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos to discuss investment opportunities focused on downstreaming and enhancing value-added processing for Indonesian commodities.

The two ministers signed a similar diplomatic and service visa-exemption agreement to streamline bilateral exchanges, ahead of an upcoming official visit by Kombos to Indonesia.

Trade data shows Indonesian non-oil and gas exports to Cyprus stood at US$9.4 million between January and July 2026, compared to US$10.7 million over the same timeframe last year.

Rounding out the diplomacy effort, Foreign Minister Sugiono met with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.

Their discussions focused on bolstering civilian protection in global conflict zones - particularly in the Gaza Strip, Palestine - and advancing joint humanitarian initiatives.
