Govt provides skills training for East Nusa Tenggara quake survivors

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Manpower is delivering vocational training programs to assist communities affected by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in August 2026.

Sukro Muhab, a special staff member to the Minister of Manpower, said in a statement released here on Friday (October 9) that the initiative is designed to upgrade practical skills and competencies, empowering affected residents to re-enter the workforce or launch their own businesses.

"The Manpower Ministry is stepping in to support disaster-hit communities through skill enhancement. With job-ready skills, residents will be better prepared to return to work or develop their own independent businesses," Muhab said.

He has expressed hope that the training assistance can reach many communities across various affected districts in the province.

Currently, the initiative is being carried out through 40 courses under the National Vocational Training scheme, channeled through various Regional Technical Implementation Units (UPTD) across NTT.

In addition to the national training scheme, the ministry is rolling out Tailor-Made Training (TMT) programs customized to specific local needs and economic potentials. To date, 38 TMT training courses have been organized across the province.

Muhab explained that the tailor-made approach ensures the training curriculum corresponds directly with local demands, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired skills immediately.

"The training goes beyond generic skill-building. Crucially, these capabilities must align with localized needs and regional potentials so they can be readily harnessed for employment or self-employment," he said.

"Through these various training tracks, the Ministry of Manpower aims to lay the groundwork for the people to recover, remain productive, and regain their economic independence," Muhab added.
