Trump says Ukraine and Russia have agreed 'energy ceasefire'

Translate

Donald Trump has said Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an "energy ceasefire" in the war between the two nations.

The US president provided few details, aside from it being "effective immediately". Neither Kyiv nor Moscow have so far commented. The BBC has asked the White House for more details.

Trump has been urging Ukraine to cease strikes on Russian oil infrastructure - which Kyiv says are vital to curtailing revenue for Moscow's war machine - so it can fulfil a recently-struck deal to release diesel to the US and the global market.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier on Sunday that he was willing to halt the strikes if Russia ceased targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure, attacks which have been intensifying ahead of winter.
