Central Visayas workers to get P42 daily wage hike by October

MANILA, Philippines – Private sector workers in Central Visayas will receive a P42 increase in their daily minimum wage starting Oct. 14, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.

Under the new rates, the daily minimum wage will increase to P582 (from P540) for Class A areas and P542 (from P500)  for Class B areas.

The new wage rates are expected to take effect on Oct. 14, following the required publication period.

In a statement, the labor department said the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC)’s five commissioners unanimously approved the wage order issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board – Region VII (RTWPB VII).

Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, who concurrently serves as the NWPC chairperson, confirmed the action during the commission’s deliberation held at the DOLE Regional Office VII in Cebu on Saturday.

The action is in accordance with Sections 1 and 4, Rule IV of NWPC Guidelines No. 03, Series of 2020, as amended, which provide for the submission and review of wage orders by the commission.

Upon affirmation, the concerned regional board proceeds with the publication of the wage order pursuant to the prescribed rules.
