Women’s Asia Cup 2026: Bangladesh sets up India semifinal clash with 34-run win over UAE

Bangladesh defeated UAE by 34 runs in a low scoring contest in the final group stage game of the Women’s Asia Cup on Tuesday at the Dubai International Stadium.

With the win, Bangladesh confirmed its place in the semifinals where it will face India on September 10, Thursday.

Put into bat first, Bangladesh huffed and puffed to 103/7 on a wicket that did not favour the batters. Runs were hard to come by as UAE’s bowlers made merry, especially Suraksha Kotte, who picked three wickets in her four overs (3/11).

With that performance, UAE’s bowlers had given the home team every chance to win the game and seal a semifinal spot against all odds.

However, to its despair, UAE’s batters unfortunately fell out of sorts from the very first ball in the chase. Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Rabeya Katun (3/14) established control by restricting the flow of runs while also picking up regular wickets.

In the end, UAE’s first innings exploits amounted to nothing as it managed to score only 69/9 from its 20 overs.

Nahida Akter was adjudged the player of the match for her all-round performance, picking up two wickets with the ball (2/18) and scoring 16 runs with the bat.
