Travis Baldree’s Legends & Lattes has already become a landmark cozy fantasy, but the story is getting a fresh new look with the upcoming Legends & Lattes: The Graphic Novel. Published by Ten Speed Graphic and adapted by Samuel Sattin, the new edition brings Viv’s journey from battle-worn mercenary to coffee shop owner into full-color panels, with art by Shanti Rittgers and Sarah Webb.
The graphic novel is now available, giving longtime readers another way to revisit Thune while opening the door for newcomers with stunning new art. The original novel has sold more than one million copies across editions, making this adaptation a major new chapter for a story celebrated for its low-stakes fantasy, heartfelt relationships, and LGBTQ+ representation. Travis Baldree and the team have worked extremely hard to bring this new adaptation to life, and he says that fans will love it in this exclusive interview.
Travis Baldree Had A Surprisingly Hands-On Role
Baldree stated that the graphic novel became much more collaborative than he initially expected. Since this was his first graphic novel adaptation, he was unsure what the process would look like, but he ultimately participated in selecting artists, consulted on character designs, and reviewed and edited the adaptation itself.
“It was definitely not on my life’s bingo card.” — Travis Baldree
That involvement mattered because Baldree already had a strong visual idea of Thune and its inhabitants while writing the novel. He says the fan community’s artwork, cosplay, and BookTok conversations did not significantly reshape his approach, largely because his own mental picture of the setting was already firmly established. That creative foundation helped keep the adaptation recognizably Baldree.
The biggest creative hurdle was not figuring out what to draw, but deciding what had to survive the transition from prose. Baldree describes adapting the cozy book’s length as the hardest part, requiring the team to preserve plot, character moments, and the story’s overall atmosphere while reducing everything to the essential words and images.
Fans Will Get A New Way To Experience Viv’s Story

For Baldree, the most rewarding part was watching familiar scenes come to life visually. He did not necessarily become more emotionally attached to one specific moment, but seeing pieces of the novel transformed into artwork created a different emotional experience, allowing him to encounter the story from a perspective that prose alone could not provide.
He also expects certain characters to make an especially strong impression on readers. When asked whether there was a production moment that made him think fans would have strong reactions, Baldree immediately pointed to Thimble and Amity. Their visual looks were clearly among the elements he was especially excited for longtime readers to see.
“People who love the book will absolutely love this experience as well.” — Travis Baldree
That confidence comes from seeing how the adaptation handles both the characters and the moments fans already cherish. Baldree hopes the graphic novel creates the same, or similar, feelings as the original from a different angle. Even more so, he sees its publication in another medium as another sign that readers continue to value kind, caring fantasy stories that leave them feeling better afterward. Legends & Lattes: The Graphic Novel is now available for purchase wherever books are sold.
