A huge Star Trek RPG is set for release later this fall. The landmark science fiction series has been adapted into all manner of games, from the ongoing MMO Star Trek Online to tabletop efforts, including the recent Magic: The Gathering crossover. These adaptations have only ramped up as the series marks its 60th anniversary this year.
The next Star Trek game tie-in to be released is a major tabletop RPG that'll allow you to create your own ongoing adventures across the galaxy. And, if you've played Star Trek tabletop games before, you'll almost certainly recognize the developer from your past campaigns.
The 2026 edition of Star Trek Adventures: Captain's Log is currently available for preorder, with copies expected to ship in late September. This tabletop RPG is created by Modiphius Entertainment, also the creators of the wider Star Trek Adventures RPG, an expansive tabletop setting with room for all sorts of different campaigns and characters.
Captain's Log in particular, though, is designed to put you in the captain's chair of your very own ship. It's a solo RPG — also often called a journaling RPG — because it's made for just one player, and most of what you'll be doing is writing down the different situations you encounter and the ways you choose to respond to them in your very own captain's log.
The idea is that you create your ship, captain, and crew to your own liking, then roll the dice to generate a variety of different missions. Randomization will add even more variation; an unlucky roll could introduce an additional wrinkle to an already-tricky situation, or get you out of trouble with an unexpected windfall.
The 2026 edition is updated from the original printing of Captain's Log, with brand-new cover art that features some of the series' iconic captains, and some basic updates to match the latest version of the digital edition. Other than that, though, the content is the same; there are no new mechanics or major changes to the gameplay itself.
As an added bonus, you can also play Captain's Log as an officer of your choice, if you'd rather respond to crises from the perspective of sick bay, security, or just a new ensign in over their head. Nor are you limited to Starfleet captains; you can just as easily adapt the rules and scenarios to work for a Klingon ship or a solo adventurer. With rules so flexible, and no one to answer to but yourself, this solo Star Trek RPG can go in any direction you want.
