Yellow fog warning across London could cause travel delays

Translate

WEST END FINAL

Londoners heading to Remembrance Sunday services may face severe travel disruption on Sunday morning as a blanket of dense fog covers the capital.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, with visibility poised to plummet below 50 metres across London and the South East.

Transport bosses have warned that the heavy mist threatens to ground flights at London airports, stall Thames ferries, and trigger delays on the roads, buses, and rail networks just as crowds head to Whitehall and local war memorials.

The alert remains in force until 10:00am, meaning early-morning commuters and those travelling to the Cenotaph face treacherous conditions.

Because weather conditions and travel advisories can change rapidly, please check real-time updates directly with the Met office and TfL before setting off.

Drivers across the capital are being urged to double-check their routes, ensure fog lights are working, and allow significant extra time for their journeys.

The murky morning heralds a wider atmospheric shift, amid growing fears that a weakening polar vortex could soon plunge London into a brutal late-November freeze.

Meteorologists are tracking a sudden warming in the stratosphere that threatens to shatter the ring of powerful winds keeping freezing air trapped at the North Pole—potentially unleashing an Arctic blast directly towards Britain.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna confirmed: "At the moment, we’ve got a warming taking place in the stratosphere. The polar vortex in the stratosphere is starting to weaken."

Experts will monitor the system over the coming weeks to determine if the capital should brace for a prolonged winter freeze. Check official updates from the Met Office for ongoing monitoring and weather outlooks.
