12 injured as tourist boat hits Bangkok pier

Translate

BANGKOK – Twelve people, including five foreign nationals, were injured when a two-deck tourist boat struck a pier in Bangkok on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 13.10 on 22 October at Sathorn Pier in Yan Nawa subdistrict, Sathorn district.

The boat, named Riva Express 2, sustained damage to its front-right side. Rescue workers treated the injured at the scene before taking them to Samitivej Chinatown Hospital. The injured suffered abrasions to their arms and legs.

Boat operator Arun Siriprom, 62, told officials that the boat developed a mechanical problem while he was bringing tourists to the pier, leaving him unable to control the rudder. The boat then crashed into the pier, damaging its stainless-steel railing.

Several passengers who were not holding on to the railing fell and were injured, he said.
