FIFA President Gianni Infantino has showered praise on Nigeria’s Flamingos following their historic victory at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The Flamingos secured the championship after overcoming Japan’s Little Nadeshiko 2-1 in Saturday’s final at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat.

Nigeria took control of the encounter through goals from Awawu Bashiru and Oluebube Umejiaku, establishing a 2-0 lead before Fuki Ito reduced the deficit for Japan.

Reacting to the triumph, Infantino congratulated the Nigerian team for making history as the first African nation to win the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

“Congratulations to Japan as well, great tournament, silver medal. And DPR Korea, bronze medalists at this beautiful (FIFA) U-17 Women’s World Cup,” he added.
