Avengers: Endgame's new credit scene doesn't mean Hulk is back in Doomsday

If you wanted to fully prepare for the release of Avengers: Doomsday, then you may have headed to the cinema over the weekend to check out the re-release of the superhero film's predecessor, Avengers: Endgame.

With the title of Avengers: Endgame Encore, the 2019 film has some extra bits of footage and new scenes to celebrate the occasion, with the ending being changed slightly ahead of the release of Doomsday.

There are also four mid-credit scenes in the re-release, with one involving Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner. The character, and his alter ego Hulk, appeared in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and got in a fight with the titular hero.

After being defeated, it was unclear what happened to him – though the re-release cleared that up. He was living far away from civilised society, though that all changes when the villainous Dr Doom comes knocking.

It remains to be seen how – or if – the character is used in Doomsday, and directing duo The Russo Brothers were reluctant to confirm to Empire Magazine if Ruffalo would be reprising his role in the highly-anticipated film.

"I haven't thought through it in a way where you can step around the [spoilers]," said Joe Russo, with Anthony responding: "There's really no way to step around that. You know us. We're just fighting ourselves to save the presents for Christmas morning."

"I think [what] we could say is, [Banner] is certainly involved in the story that revolves around Doom. We will not confirm nor deny his appearance in Doomsday," said Joe, who added that they had "to save some surprises".

Prior to the release of Encore, the directors said that the re-release would be "required viewing" for those who wanted to completely follow the story of Doomsday ahead of its release in December.

"[It's] gonna connect the story of the two movies. There's a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out," they said.

Avengers: Endgame Encore is in cinemas now, while Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on 18 December.
