Sydney Sweeney's R-rated rom-com has become a Netflix sensation around the world right before an exciting streaming arrival. Sweeney's list of movies and TV shows includes quite a few major projects, and that slate just keeps growing with the star attached to multiple intriguing new releases. Of the projects Sweeney has starred in so far, HBO became a major home for her, with the psychological thriller Sharp Objects, the dark teen drama Euphoria, and the awards-darling dark comedy anthology series The White Lotus. Elsewhere, Sweeney has led movies like The Housemaid, Immaculate, and more, finding success in theaters and on TV.

Sweeney's upcoming movies present exciting opportunities to follow-up on the success of the R-rated psychological thriller The Housemaid, her latest film, which grossed $400.5 million worldwide. One of those is that movie's sequel, 2027's The Housemaid’s Secret, while other projects on the actress' slate include the live-action Gundam movie with Noah Centineo, a new take on the sci-fi Barbarella, the sci-fi fantasy video game adaptation Split Fiction, and many more. Before those movies arrive, Sweeney is seeing one of her biggest releases, Anyone but You, become a global streaming sensation on Netflix just before it gets a new United States streaming home.

Sweeney's Anyone But You Is Taking Over Netflix's Global Charts

Anyone but You has become the 8th most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide, according to data from FlixPatrol. The R-rated rom-com leaves behind films like the disaster thriller Acid and the new comedy Crazy Rich, Incredibly Broke on Netflix's global charts. Standing above Sweeney's Anyone but You on the coveted chart are movies like four Ice Age films that came to Netflix as part of an unprecedented licensing deal with Disney, and Netflix Original movies like the thrillers Unabomber, starring Russell Crowe, and Animals, both starring and directed by Ben Affleck. Sweeney's Anyone but You is one of her biggest movies.

At a time when rom-coms had lost their strength in theaters, Sweeney teamed up with Hollywood star Glen Powell on this sleeper hit that ended up grossing $220.3 million worldwide against a reported budget of just $25 million. The R-rated film ended up ushering in a new wave of theatrical rom-coms. Anyone but You is a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. According to FlixPatrol, Anyone but You is currently trending on Netflix in 21 countries. In the United States, Anyone but You is mainly available to stream on Hulu (via JustWatch), with the movie arriving on HBO Max on October 20.

There Have Been Talks Of A Sequel

Anyone but You was originally released in theaters on December 22, 2023. The R-rated rom-com became such a major hit that viewers quickly started to ask for a sequel to be made. Back on March 10, 2024, Sweeney told People that she was brainstorming ideas with Powell to see what would work best for an Anyone but You sequel. Those have yet to materialize. That said, both Sweeney's Bea and Powell's Ben returned in Easter egg form as photos on dating profiles in Anyone but You director Will Gluck's latest rom-com One Night Only, so sequel chances remain in the cards.
