Negri Sembilan police say they are not taking sides

SEREMBAN: Police in Negri Sembilan are closely monitoring developments concerning the state's royal institution and taking necessary measures to maintain public order, without taking sides.

Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said police took note of the Attorney-General's Chambers' statement on the April 19, 2026 proclamation and developments in the related legal process.

In a statement, he said police respected the constitutional, legal and institutional processes.

Alzafny said police were deployed at several locations, including the Tuanku Ja'afar Royal Gallery, Balai Undang Luak Sungei Ujong and Wisma Negeri, to maintain public safety.

Police controlled access to the Wisma Negeri office for members of the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council following the palace's announcement cancelling the appointments.

Alzafny said the move was to ensure security at the premises.

He said the measures should not be interpreted as police taking sides in the ongoing constitutional and legal process.

Alzafny said police would continue to carry out their duties professionally, fairly and in accordance with the law without favouring any party.

"Police will not tolerate any act that violates the law, causes provocation, disrupts public order or threatens the safety of any individual or institution."
