Sam Bankman-Fried Docuseries Set at Amazon (Exclusive)

Translate

Amazon is getting into the crypto game, kind of, though it may have picked the wrong partner.

Propagate and Amazon MGM Studios have teamed on the three-part Sam Bankman-Fried documentary series The Boy Who Stole Billions?, which is set for a November release, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The question mark in the title is doing some serious work here.

The Boy Who Stole Billions? gained access to Bankman-Fried in prison, so you’ll get his side of the story straight from the fraud’s horse’s mouth. The docuseries “delves into one of the biggest frauds in U.S. history with unprecedented access and exclusive firsthand accounts from Sam Bankman-Fried himself from prison,” according to Prime Video.

It continued: “At 30, Sam Bankman-Fried ran a $32 billion crypto empire until he was convicted of stealing $8 billion in customer funds, one of the biggest frauds in U.S. history. For the first time, he tells his story from prison in this riveting three-part docuseries. Was it fraud, or did his risky bets simply spiral out of control? With never before seen interviews from those who built FTX with him, the series probes SBF’s pressure-cooker world, inner circle, and complicated relationship with his CEO and former girlfriend, Caroline Ellison.”

FTX was a major cryptocurrency exchange. It collapsed in November 2022 due to severe fund mismanagement, a massive multi-billion-dollar deficit and, depending who you ask, fraud. Bankman-Fried was in Ben MacKenzie’s (The O.C.) crypto-takedown documentary Everyone Is Lying to You for Money (2025). In 2023, he appeared on 60 Minutes in segment “The Rise and Fall of Sam Bankman-Fried.”

The Boy Who Stole Billions? is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Propagate and West Buttermilk with Howard T. Owens, Ben Silverman, Drew Buckley, Isabel San Vargas, Taylor Levin, Nanette Burstein and James Packer serving as executive producers.
