Canadian superstar Celine Dion experienced an emotional moment on stage in Paris, moved to tears during her comeback concert—her first live performance before an audience after a years-long absence due to health issues.

The star affirmed that she had kept her promise to return to the stage and stand once again before her fans.

Dion performed at the La Défense Arena in Paris on Saturday, kicking off a series of shows in the French capital and marking her return to a full concert performance for the first time in nearly six years.

Her emotion was palpable as she stood before tens of thousands of fans who welcomed her with cheers and applause— a reflection of the immense anticipation surrounding her return to the stage.

Addressing the audience, Dion said: “I made a promise to return.”

Dion’s return to the stage follows a long hiatus from performing, which began after she announced in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS)—a rare neurological condition that affects movement and causes muscle stiffness and spasms.

Her health condition forced the Canadian artist to cancel her “Courage” world tour; she had previously cancelled a series of Las Vegas concerts in 2021 due to health issues.

Since announcing her diagnosis, Dion has spoken on several occasions about the difficulties she endured, all while maintaining her desire to return to singing and perform before her audience once again.

Paris Olympics

Despite a long hiatus from performing, Céline Dion made a public appearance in 2024 when she took part in the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, delivering a vocal performance that garnered widespread global attention.

Her appearance at the Olympics signaled her readiness to gradually resume her artistic career after years of focusing on her health.

Sixteen-Concert Run

Dion’s comeback has generated immense public interest, reflected in her Paris concert schedule; the series of shows has been extended to a total of 16 performances, running through October 14.

During these concerts, the artist will perform a selection of her most notable songs in both French and English, including “My Heart Will Go On,” “Think Twice,” and “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now.”
