Billie Piper, Olivia Colman and Andrew Scott looked to be having the time of their lives as they led the way at the BFI London Film Festival opening night on Wednesday.

Actress Billie, 44, was spotted larking around on the red carpet with Andrew, 49, who was later seen holding hands in an affectionate moment with Olivia.

Once the fawning was over, the group headed inside for the European premiere of Elsinore at the Southbank Centre in the Royal Festival Hall.

The event kicks off the film festival, which began on Wednesday and runs until Sunday October 18 and is hosted across various London cinemas.

Billie pulled out the stops for the screening of their film, wearing an Emilia Wickstead gown with leather gloves and a pointed black heel.

Adding further drama to her look, the Scoop star wore a heavy grey eye make-up look with plenty of liner, with her blonde hair slicked back.

Meanwhile, Olivia, who recently debuted long grey locks at the premiere for her film Wicker, wore her hair swept up into a chic plait.

Known for her brunette locks – and having worn a pixie cut for the past decade – Olivia surprised fans last week when she debuted her long silver hair.

The mother of three then embraced her greys for her appearance during day seven of Paris Fashion Week, as she walked in the Miu Miu runway show.

Andrew opted for his own stylish look, wearing a brown double-breasted jacket with a white shirt and printed tie. He added a floral buttonhole in his lapel.

Elsinore is a drama based on the true story of Ian Charleson, the Scottish actor best known for Chariots of Fire.

The film focuses on 1989, when Charleson took over the role of Hamlet at the National Theatre after Daniel Day-Lewis withdrew.

Charleson was already seriously ill with AIDS, and knew that playing Hamlet – one of the most physically and emotionally demanding roles in theatre – could accelerate his decline.

Andrew is apparently the standout star in the show and The Guardian has already singled out his performance as potentially Oscar-worthy.

Billie plays Patsy, a close friend and colleague of Charleson who works as a casting director, bringing him the opportunity to take over as Hamlet.

The group appeared to have struck up a close bond while making the film as they laughed and helped to fix each other's outfits on the red carpet.
