Reacher Season 6's Fate Officially Sealed By Prime Video

Reacher's future has been decided by Prime Video.

The action series, based on the books by Lee Child, is one of the biggest hits on streaming. Alan Ritchson and his one-man army adventures regularly dominate the Top 10 lists, commanding billions of minutes watched for each new season. It accomplishes that, in part, thanks to the fact that Reacher releases on a fairly consistent schedule, with viewers knowing they probably won't have to wait too long for another batch of episodes.

That is guaranteed to continue, as Prime Video has announced that Reacher is renewed for season 6. The official confirmation comes mere weeks after Reacher season 4 concluded its run. It also comes as season 5, which is based on the book Make Me, is currently filming in Toronto.

Reacher has premiered on roughly a yearly cadence and this early greenlight for season 6 makes its speedy return much more likely. With Reacher season 5 filming, the series could return as soon as summer next year. This schedule will also allow the writers to begin the next season, with filming taking place as soon as possible to ensure a speedy return. This is good news for one of Prime Video's biggest shows, especially as rival streamers struggle to retain viewers between seasons.

Reacher is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios, and is written by Emmy-nominated writer Nick Santora executive produces and serves as showrunner. Executive producers also include Child, Ritchson, Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Mick Betancourt, Lisa Kussner, Sam Hill, Amy Pocha & Seth Cohen, with Carolyn Harris and Kenny Madrid as the executives-in-charge for Paramount Television Studios.

The news of the renewal is not surprising. The adaptation ranks among Prime Video's most-watched originals and is still improving on its already impressive performance. Reacher season 4, which is based on Gone Tomorrow, reached 66 million viewers globally in its first 28 days, beating the benchmark set by season 3. Overall, Reacher season 4 is among the 5 most-viewed seasons of any Prime Video Original in history, with 58% of that audience coming internationally from places such as the U.K., Germany, and Brazil.

The renewal of Reacher, which has reached 200 million viewers since its 2022 launch, drew a reaction from Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, who released a statement praising executive producer Nick Santora, Ritchson, and talking about what the show has meant for Prime Video. Santora's remarks are included below:

Alan Ritchson is Jack Reacher — he's delivered a performance that has captivated audiences around the world. Although the renewal is expected, it comes at a pivotal moment in the overall franchise. Right after the Reacher season 4 ending, the spinoff Neagley was launched. It puts a spotlight on Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, a friend and confidant to Ritchson's character. All eight episodes of the spinoff premiered on September 16 to overall positive reviews, and a decision has not been announced about whether season 2 is in the works.

Ritchson has joked in past interviews about continuing to play Jack Reacher into old age, sticking to the role that has helped him turn into a bankable movie star. While that plan remains to be seen, it's at least a certainty that the series will be sticking around for the next few years. Now, the question which book Reacher season 6 will adapt. That will likely be revealed closer to production time.
