Andrew Scott's "masterpiece" historical drama is now available to watch at home

Translate

After its release in cinemas earlier this year, Andrew Scott's historical drama Pressure is now available to watch at home in the UK and Ireland through digital purchase or rental on outlets, such as Prime Video and Apple TV.

Telling the story of real-life Scottish meteorologist, the film is set in World War II as the Allies plan to attack France.

Stagg worries that the weather could ruin the D-Day plans and jeopardise the entire war effort, and he has to fight against the Allies to make sure his concerns are heard.

Directed by Hotel Mumbai's Anthony Maras and co-written with actor and writer David Haig, who penned and starred in the original stage version of Pressure, the film boasts a couple of other recognisable names in addition to Scott.

There's The Mummy and The Whale star Brendan Fraser, Better Call Saul and The Banshees of Inisherin's Kerry Condon, The Mindy Project and I Care a Lot's Chris Messina, and Homeland and Wolf Hall's Damian Lewis.

The film wasn't a major box office success, but critics loved it. Over on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a very impressive 89% positive score from 147 reviews.

Fox TV Houston called it "a gripping cinematic masterpiece", while The Irish Times dubbed it "a tense, professionally made dad flick that will play handsomely on bank holiday afternoons forever".

"Led by a stellar Andrew Scott, Pressure is a conventional but compelling look at a little-known vignette from the theatre of World War II", wrote Empire. "Small, smart and perfectly formed."

"With its businesslike score and wood-panelled rooms swimming with testosterone, it's no massive departure from the established formula for wartime drama. But this is solidly watchable stuff, elevated by top-tier acting talent", reads The Observer's review.

Pressure is available to purchase or rent from various digital storefronts now.
