Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing his wife six times in an incident at Kampung Padang Lepai, Kadok, here, on Monday.

Kota Bharu district police chief Azmir Damiri said the 47-year-old suspect was remanded for seven days until Oct 12.

“The suspect was detained to assist in the investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code,” he told Bernama today.

The victim’s mother, Zubaidah Abdullah, said her daughter, a nurse, suffered six stab wounds to her body and neck before being rushed to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for treatment.

Zubaidah, 78, said her daughter, who had been married to the suspect for six years, was seeking a divorce and previously lodged a police report over death threats.

Zubaidah said she initially thought her daughter and son-in-law were merely having a fight, but realised something was amiss after seeing blood on the floor.

“I tried to grab his shirt from behind to stop him from hurting my daughter again, but I couldn’t.

“We didn’t know he was outside the kitchen because it was quite dark there. I never expected him to suddenly attack my daughter,” said Zubaidah, who was also injured in the incident and needed two stitches on her finger.

She said her 12-year-old grandson ran out to seek help as the suspect fled the scene before later surrendering at the Nilam Puri police station.
