Leeds get Zaidu worry ahead Jan transfer

Leeds United are reportedly growing concerned over their pursuit of Porto defender, Zaidu Sanusi, ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Football Insider, the Premier League club are beginning to sweat over a possible deal, despite earlier reports suggesting that signing the Nigerian would be relatively straightforward.

The report claims Leeds want to complete the transfer in January to steal a march on emerging suitors.

Sanusi’s contract at Estadio do Dragao expires at the end of the 2026/27 season, and a number of clubs are said to be exploring a free transfer for him in the summer.

Leeds are said to want to avoid that scenario by moving in the New Year.

The 29-year-old is in his seventh campaign at Porto, where he has helped the club win two Primeira Liga titles.

Leeds, managed by Daniel Farke, are seventh in the Premier League table after a positive start to their second consecutive season in the top flight.

Sanusi’s arrival would add competition for Gabriel Gudmundsson, who has started most of the club’s league matches this season. The Sweden international is 27 years old.

Both players are comfortable advancing into attacking positions, so Gudmundsson could become a second-choice option in the near future. However, Leeds have started the campaign well with him in the team, so a significant spell on the bench would require a major turnaround.
