The Police Command in Enugu State has detained a 28-year-old suspect for allegedly robbing a female Point-of-Sale operator of N200,000 at gunpoint in Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Enugu.

Ndukwe said police operatives attached to the Udenu Division, supported by members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested the suspect on October 18 at about 12:26 pm.

He said the arrest followed a report that the suspect had robbed the victim at her shop along Old Orba Road, Uhulor, Obollo-Afor, on October 17 at about 9 am.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim raised the alarm as the suspect fled and was allegedly threatening to shoot anyone pursuing him.

“A Beretta-like pistol and an expended 9mm ammunition shell were recovered from him, while the suspect has confessed to the crime during interrogation.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations,” he said.

Ndukwe said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for the operation and acknowledged the support provided by the Neighbourhood Watch Group.

The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the police and other recognised security agencies. (NAN)
