Andrew Scott to Reprise Starring Role in ‘Sea Wall’ Play for Limited Run and Filmed Adaptation (EXCLUSIVE)

Andrew Scott is set to reprise his starring role in the one-man play “Sea Wall.”

The production of the limited run — it will play 19 performances at Studio Seaview in New York from Oct. 16 to Oct. 30 — will be filmed for a feature adaptation.

The 30-minute monologue play was written for Scott by Tony-winning playwright Simon Stephens when he was commissioned in 2008 by the Bush Theatre in London to write a play that can be performed in natural daylight after the theater’s lighting was damaged during a flood. Scott plays Alex, a photographer whose life with his wife and young daughter is suddenly upended.

Peabody Award winner Tina Satter directs both the revival and the film.

“In an industry first, ‘Sea Wall’ will be shot for a one-of-a-kind new feature film,” reads a press release, in part, about the revival and film. “Conceived as a film about the creation of theater, the project will not only feature Scott’s performances, but the complete life of the event surrounding it — backstage, on stage and in the house, with the audience at each performance serving as an essential character in the feature.”

Scott also starred in a 2018 “Sea Wall” revival at London’s The Old Vic.

The “Sea Wall” news comes on the heels of Scott becoming a film award season favorite for his work in “Elsinore.” The movie follows the real-life story of “Chariots of Fire” star Ian Charleson (Scott) as he performs “Hamlet” at the National Theatre in London while dying of AIDS in 1989.

The creative team for “Sea Wall” includes lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Ben Williams. For the film, Paul Yee is the director of photography and Parker Lutz will be advising on production design.

“Sea Wall” will be produced on stage by Seaview, Spencer Ross, Steven Demmler, Linden Entertainment and Pam Hurst-Della Pietra & Stephen Della Pietra and executive produced by Wessex Grove and ATG Productions.
