Ex-IDAC boss Andrea Johnson, Feroz Khan in hot water

Translate

Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson and dismissed Crime Intelligence deputy head Major-General Feroz Khan have been arrested.

The pair face allegations of defeating the ends of justice following explosive testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

According to reports, authorities arrested the two on Friday, 30 October, after securing warrants on Thursday.

They are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Madlanga Commission exposes alleged docket leak

The arrests follow allegations that Johnson improperly shared confidential police information with Khan in 2018 while he faced an assault investigation.

Retired Hawks Colonel Kobus Roelofse told the commission that Johnson arranged for Khan to receive material from a police docket before investigators obtained his warning statement.

The case involved a complaint by Crime Intelligence Brigadier Leonora Phetlhe, who accused Khan of assaulting her.

During her testimony in July, Johnson invoked her constitutional right against self-incrimination when questioned about the alleged leak.

Close relationship under scrutiny

The commission also examined WhatsApp messages that revealed a close personal relationship between Johnson and Khan.

Some messages contained affectionate exchanges, with Khan referring to Johnson as “gorgeous”.

Johnson resigned as IDAC head in July, while the South African Police Service dismissed Khan in September after he failed to attend disciplinary proceedings.

Khan also faces separate criminal charges linked to an alleged illicit precious metals operation.
