Kupang to Flores flights cancelled following earthquake

Kupang (ANTARA) - Several flights in East Nusa Tenggara Province, especially from El Tari International Airport in Kupang to various airports in Flores, have been cancelled, while others are awaiting confirmation of operational status following an earthquake on Saturday morning.

Teguh Darmawan Saiman, general manager of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia at El Tari International Airport, confirmed on Saturday the airport's facilities and key operational equipment remain in good condition and were unaffected by the earthquake.

"However, the situation differs at several destination airports. Flights to Ruteng and Ende are currently undergoing coordination regarding airport conditions and readiness, meaning there is a potential for airline cancellations," Saiman said.

Specifically for the Kupang-Ende route, Wings Air has requested the cancellation of flights IW 1831 and IW 1957. Consequently, 126 passengers bound for Ende were unable to depart and Wings Air will provide ticket refunds to the affected passengers.

Meanwhile, airports serving Larantuka, Lembata, Tambolaka, Alor, Maumere, and Labuan Bajo are confirmed to be operating normally, allowing flights from Kupang to proceed.

"Regarding flights to Bajawa, airport authorities are still coordinating to verify the operational status of the destination airport," he stated.

PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia advises prospective passengers to stay updated on the latest information from airlines regarding flight schedules, noting the cancellation decisions rest with the airlines based on operational conditions as well as flight safety and security considerations.
