TAGBILARAN CITY — Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man caught on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera taking a wallet containing an estimated P100,000 cash inside St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral-Shrine in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Bohol Police Provincial Director Col. Patricio Degay Jr. on Thursday ordered a swift investigation into the incident and urged anyone who could identify the man or provide information about the missing wallet to come forward.

Degay said the police wanted to immediately identify the person seen in the CCTV footage and resolve the case.

The wallet belonged to a senior citizen who had accidentally left it inside the cathedral. It contained money she had saved for a vacation and a birthday celebration with her siblings scheduled for Sunday.

The woman had returned to the Philippines to celebrate her birthday with her family.

Church CCTV footage showed an unidentified man picking up the wallet, putting it in his bag, and leaving without reporting it to the security guard or church personnel.

The victim’s family said they did not want to shame the man publicly when they appealed to social media. They said they want him to reconsider his actions and return the money, which represented the senior citizen’s hard-earned savings.

The family appealed for the return of the wallet and all its contents, offering the person who took it the option of returning it privately./coa
