Zetatech launches Zecoa additive for lower-carbon coatings

KUALA LUMPUR: Zetatech Sdn Bhd has introduced Zecoa, a nanotechnology-based additive for paint and coating applications designed to reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) and heat impact.

Zetatech managing director Associate Professor Dr Rozzeta Dolah said the innovation reflected efforts to translate academic research into commercially viable technology.

Zecoa's unique catalytic technology could potentially open up wider applications in the industrial sector, said Rozzeta, who is also an academic and researcher at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

"The development of Zecoa demonstrates how research outcomes can be taken beyond the laboratory and developed into technologies with commercial value," she said at the launch on Tuesday.

The technology was unveiled at the University Research and Innovation Investment Summit 2026 (URIIS 2026) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

Zecoa uses nanomaterials and specialised catalysts, offering potential applications across various industrial sectors.

At the event, Zetatech signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Nanoviz – Internationalisation and Euro-Circuit Technology (ECT) – Manufacturing Ready, to strengthen collaboration and efforts to commercialise research-based technologies.

Zetatech also received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for its achievement in paint innovation and coating technology.

The recognition followed the company's development of "the first CO₂ adsorbent paint" through its Mizu Paint product.

Mixu Paint is a dual-function nano paint designed to adsorb carbon dioxide from the air while reducing heat, supporting efforts to remove CO₂ and improve environmental sustainability.

The innovation is also aligned with the aspirations of the Malaysia Blue-Nation Agenda, centred on "Made in Malaysia, Invented in Malaysia, Owned by Malaysia", as highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the opening of URIIS 2026.
