Hamza Gauraki is set to win against an Adiong-backed candidate, an independent bet, and a Progresibong Bangsamoro Party candidate in Lanao del Sur's 2nd District

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Hamza Gauraki, former mayor of Kapai town in Lanao del Sur, emerged as the victor for the province’s 2nd District in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or BARMM parliamentary elections held on Monday, September 14.

Gauraki received 41,393 votes, according to 98.80% of total election returns as of Tuesday, September 15, 12:59 pm.

The former Kapai mayor is from the influential Gauraki political dynasty. His wife, Aidah, is the incumbent mayor of Kapai.

Gauraki ran under the banner of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party, which is led by Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim, chairman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

His closest competitor is Alexander Alonto Jr., the bet of the Adiong-led Serbisyong Inklusibo-Alyansang Progresibo Party, who has 36,477 votes. Alonto can no longer overtake Gauraki.

Other bets trailing in the four-way race are independent candidate Salahuden Edres and Samanudin Bazer from the Progresibong Bangsamoro Party. – Rappler.com
