Piss share the inspiration behind their debut album in exclusive playlist to accompany The Cover

NME’s latest stars of The Cover, Piss, have created an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Vancouver punk band are on this week’s (October 12) edition of The Cover, a manifestation of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read Piss’ profile here, written by Lisa Wright and featuring photography by Maya Fuhr.

To accompany their appearance on The Cover, Piss have curated an exclusive playlist collating some of the music that inspired their debut album, ‘You Made Me / Skin On Linen’. Their selections include tracks by the likes of The Velvet Underground & Nico, Women, Swans, Hijokaidan, and more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

Piss’ debut album, which will be released via Sub Pop on October 30, was informed by frontwoman Taylor Zantingh’s experiences of sexual violence and the lasting trauma from it. “I’m always reminded that a big reason why the project is doing well is because there’s this huge problem, and if so many people are resonating with it, that reflects on our artistry and our ability to talk about it,” she tells NME. “But it also reflects on how horrible a lot of people feel that they’re relating to a record like this.”

Elsewhere in The Cover, Zantingh also discusses the physical impact of performing the album. “It’s the most complicated set of feelings I’ve ever had to grapple with because, on one hand, it feels amazing to be able to connect with people in this way, but then the littlest thing will just make me feel completely awful,” she explains. “The band is built on a foundation of my suffering. It’s inextricable, and that’s very, very intense.”
