The 20th edition of the Asian Games is set to begin officially on September 19, although the preliminary rounds of the tournament have already begun in Japan.

The multi sports quadrennial event features 43 standard sports alongside new disciplines like freestyle BMX, mixed martial arts, paddle surfing, teqball, and virtual taekwondo. Seven disciplines, namely archery, hockey, sailing, squash, surfing, tennis, and triathlon, offer direct qualification quotas for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
