Man Utd, Villa target last 16 as Carabao Cup draw holds Wednesday night

Translate

The Carabao Cup fourth-round draw will take place on Wednesday night, with 11 clubs already assured of places and five spots still to be settled.

The draw is scheduled to be conducted shortly after Manchester United’s third-round clash with Brighton, with Pien Meulensteen hosting the proceedings and former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp and former Aston Villa captain Ashley Young drawing the balls.

Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Sunderland, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Bradford City had already secured their places in the fourth round after winning their respective third-round ties.

Five more teams joined them on Tuesday, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Fulham, Brentford and Peterborough United progressing.

Arsenal booked their place with a 4-2 victory away to Ipswich Town, while Liverpool advanced after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1.

Fulham defeated West Ham United 3-2, Brentford edged Reading 2-1 and Peterborough United progressed on penalties after a 3-3 draw with Barnsley.

Four more third-round ties will be played on Wednesday before the draw.

Everton will host Wolves, Fleetwood Town face Sheffield United, Coventry City entertain Aston Villa, while Manchester United welcome Brighton.

The final third-round tie will be played on Thursday, when defending champions Manchester City host Championship side Norwich City.

As a result, the winner of the City-Norwich tie will be represented by a placeholder in Wednesday night’s draw, with the identity of the final club to complete the 16-team line-up not known until Thursday.

The fourth-round ties are scheduled to be played in the week commencing October 26.
