A teenage girl who got drunker than she had ever been before on the infamous Otley Run pub crawl in Leeds ended up attacking emergency workers.

Boozed-up Cleopatra Fowler, 19, turned violent when paramedics attempted to help a friend in her group who had collapsed during the spree this summer.

Fowler pushed the trio who were trying to give assistance and later when taken to hospital the jobless teen spat at a police officer.

Prosecutor Farrah Khan told Leeds Magistrates' Court that an ambulance crew had been called to an address on Otley Road on 2 July, this year, to assist a young female who was unconscious.

When they arrived they were verbally abused by Fowler who was screaming and shouting - causing them to call for police back up.

'The defendant assaulted three ambulance staff workers,' said Mrs Kahn. 'Police then placed the defendant in handcuffs and she was taken to hospital.'

'In the hospital she spat at a police officer and she was further arrested.'

A statement from one of the paramedics said: 'It was upsetting.

'I go to work to help people and not to be assaulted by members of the public whilst I am trying to keep them safe.

'I do not give anyone permission to harm or assault me.'

Another paramedic wrote: 'What happened was not nice - I do not want to come to work to be assaulted by members of the public.'

The police officer stated: 'She spat in my direction. It was observed by a nurse who said "do not spit at people". I asked the nurse if she spat at me and she confirmed that it had made contact with my leg.'

The court heard that there are 51 assaults on emergency workers in the Leeds area every week.

Mrs Khan said: 'Ultimately emergency workers are fathers, mothers, sons and daughters, and when they are attacked they become victims like others.'

The court heard Fowler, of Leeds, pleaded guilty to assault by beating three paramedics and assaulting a constable in the execution of his duties.

Magistrates heard from a probation officer, who had prepared pre-sentence reports, that Fowler had drunk a large volume of alcohol that day and it was her friend that had become unwell and an ambulance was called.

Fowler 'became angry' and pushed the paramedics away from her friend.

She regrets spitting at the police officer and had never been as drunk as she was that day, the court heard.

Fowler has health problems and does not work, instead receiving universal credit and PIP payments.

Mitigating Mohammed Abbas Younis said his client 'is mortified by her actions'.

Magistrates sentenced Fowler to a 12 month community order, in which she must follow probation requirements and alcohol abstinence programme for 90 days.

She must also pay each emergency worker £100 compensation, pay a £114 surcharge and prosecution costs of £85 - a total of £599.

Chair Steven Chan told her: 'You were drunk and you spat at an emergency worker.

'Those four people were public servants, serving the public.

'You have shown some remorse and feel shame and embarrassment.'

The pub crawl is one of the most famous in the country with participants often donning fancy dress.
