KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties must respect the coalition’s decision to hand the Bemban state seat to a Bersatu candidate in the Melaka state election, says PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said party members must respect the consensus reached by the coalition and their respective leaderships regarding electoral pacts and seat allocations.

He said PH maintains an open approach to discussions, considering every possibility in determining the direction of its political partnerships.

“This is PH’s decision, and all party members should respect the coalition’s collective choice. In PH, we discuss matters openly, weighing all possibilities and probabilities,” he told reporters after opening the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark 2026 Re-evaluation Session at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Convention Centre here yesterday.

Last Saturday, former Melaka DAP chairman Damian Yeo was reported to have said he was willing to quit politics rather than support PH’s move to hand over the Bemban seat to a Bersatu candidate in the state polls.

The former Duyong assemblyman reportedly cited past political betrayals that made it difficult to accept any proposed cooperation with Bersatu.

Meanwhile, Amirudin, who is also a PKR vice-president, said any decision to extend electoral pacts with Bersatu to the Sarawak state election or the 16th General Election (GE16) has not been finalised.

“So far, we have not been tested yet, and we will see what the outcome is after the Melaka state election,” he said.

On political ties between PH and Bersatu in Selangor, Amirudin said no decision has been reached, pending further deliberations.

“We will wait because it involves lengthy discussions. God willing, we will make a decision soon, possibly during or after the election,” he said. — Bernama
