EastEnders' Kat suffers tragic breakdown ahead of devastating row with Alfie

EastEnders’ Kat Moon’s spiralling mental health results in a devastating breakdown on the streets of Walford next week. Is there anyone who can pull her out from the depths of grief and despair?

"Ever since Zoe’s untimely death, Kat has been drowning in the agony of losing her only daughter," begins our Walford insider. "She’s holed up in Zoe’s old bedroom, lying in the same bed where Zoe passed away to feel closer to her precious girl.

"Kat’s grandson Josh breaches her solitude this week to try and get her up and about, but she’s still in pyjamas. He tries to offer Kat support, but she’s really struggling."

At the start of the week, Jean makes a heartfelt attempt to relieve Kat’s torment and cheer her up by buying flowers that remind her of Zoe. However, as the pain of Kat’s loss continues to consume her, she pushes her loved ones away and chooses to seek comfort at the bottom of a bottle.

In her drunken state, Kat then suffers an extremely public breakdown, forcing her ex-husband Phil to intervene…

"Kat is swigging vodka in the street, and she’s in a really bad way," explains our source. "Phil steps in, and Kat lashes out at him before collapsing in his arms. Emotionally she’s all over the place, but she won’t let her family get near her."

Upon returning home to The Vic, Kat’s unstable behaviour peaks as she isolates her family yet again, leading to an argument with Alfie. As a blazing row erupts and emotions run high at the pub, the future of their relationship is left hanging in the balance…

"Kat and Alfie are at rock bottom," reveals our insider. "Alfie is trying to be supportive, but she is completely shutting him out, even though he’s grieving too. The toll that Zoe’s death has taken on their marriage is unfathomable, and Alfie is at a loss on how best to help his wife."

As events hurtle towards a dramatic climax in a huge episode that will air on Thursday, 15 October, Kat’s actions threaten to destroy her and everyone she holds dear.

Can she find a way to overcome her pain and make peace with her horrific loss? Or has Kat passed the point of no return?
