The Walking Dead Meets Stardew Valley In This Zombie Farming RPG

Imagine waking up in a post-apocalyptic world where the grocery stores are empty and the roads are crawling with zombies. Now, mix that The Walking Dead-like atmosphere with a little of Stardew Valley, where tending crops and keeping a farm running become just as important as survival. It’s an odd combination, but trying to build a quiet life full of homegrown food when you’re literally holding on to hope of humanity? Quite interesting.

That’s the idea behind Farming Through The End, an upcoming zombie survival game on Steam from Resilient Roots Games. Instead of treating farming as a relaxing side activity, the game puts it at the center of your struggle to stay alive. You'll need to grow food, collect supplies, build defenses, and fight off the undead while trying to keep your little patch of land from becoming another ruined corner of the world.

The Walking Dead, Stardew Valley come together in Farming Through The End

Farming Through The End

In Farming Through The End, you can survive alone or work with a small group. Other survivors may help you, but competition for limited supplies can make them dangerous, too. Unlike Stardew Valley, where farming largely revolves around expanding your business and improving daily life, Farming Through The End makes protecting your crops a matter of survival, marked by The Walking Dead elements. At the same time, it isn’t just a zombie-quashing game either.

You’ll grow crops, raise livestock, and build structures on your land. But zombies can attack your farm, forcing you to prepare defenses before nightfall. Traps and fortified structures can help keep the undead away from the food and resources you've worked to produce. A bigger farm also means more to protect. You’ll need to balance expanding your operation with making sure it can withstand an attack. Again, your farm can’t provide everything you need. You’ll have to venture into the surrounding wasteland in a pickup truck, searching abandoned towns, forests, and junkyards for materials and useful equipment.

Of course, scavenging isn’t risk-free either. In fact, this is where the zombies bother you the most. These creatures can threaten your trips, while hostile survivors may compete for the same supplies you’re trying to grab. Choosing what to collect—and when to return home—becomes part of managing your resources.

Trading offers another way to get what you need in Farming Through The End. You can exchange your crops with other survivor groups for weapons, equipment, and building materials. You’ll also have to decide where your resources go. Upgrading your truck could make future scavenging runs more useful, while investing in defenses could help your farm survive the next attack.

Build A Farm Worth Defending With Farming Through The End

Farming Through The End combines crop growing and livestock care with scavenging, crafting, trading, and zombie defense. Quite a mixture, I’d say. Instead of separating farming from combat, it connects the two: Your farm produces the resources you need, and surviving attacks lets you keep producing them.

The game is listed as coming soon on Steam, with an Early Access release planned. There’s no demo for you to try at the moment, but you can wishlist it to know when it becomes available.

If the idea of tending crops while preparing to defend against zombie attacks sounds appealing to you, Farming Through The End brings those two sides of survival—the punishing Walking Dead and cozy Stardew Valley—together in one game.
