Star Trek: Fall Of The Old Ones Officially Releases October 2026

Star Trek has been through all sorts of guises and mediums over the years, and while not all have been absolute smash-hits, there's something uniquely comforting about how well the franchise is doing in 2026. Video games have been no exception to that rule, and there have been several releases over the last few years that are worth playing as a fan.

2023's Star Trek: Resurgence is probably the most noterworthy of the recent efforts, putting players in the shoes of two Starfleet officers and really putting the emphasis on decision making, which is uniquely well suited to the franchise as a whole. Outside of that, longtime MMO Star Trek Online is still a great pick, and the developer has just confirmed a series of exciting releases in their latest roadmap.

As first reported by Trek Movie, developer Cryptic Studios confirmed their roadmap for Star Trek Online for the rest of 2026, all the way up to February 2027. As part of that, the Fall of the Old Ones event is set to go ahead in October, as it has done seasonally every year since 2021.

Essentially functioning as the game's nod to Halloween, it usually consists of a Task Force Operation as well as other activities, with more being added each year. Though they haven't detailed exactly what they're planning to do this time around, last year was well worth logging in for, and even if it just stays the same, it should be good fun this time around.

The biggest news of the bunch, though, is probably the dawn of a whole new era for the game with the start of Season 38. That includes a 17th Anniversary Event, a new TFO Feature, new Deep Space Encounter Content, and the first Tier 7 Reputation in the game's history, all at the same time.

The arrival of the Tarellian Plague Ship and the Terran NX Starship, from The Next Generation and Enterprise respectively, should also be quite exciting at the end of December, while January also sees the addition of the Vau N'akat Starship from Prodigy to the game.

As always, Star Trek Online is entirely free to play, and it actually remains one of the more underrated MMOs out there. If you're a fan of any of the shows, you could certainly make worse plans than giving it a try for the first time next week.

Outside of the world of video games, both Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy have more seasons planned, while Paramount has a feature film reboot planned. The only caveat with the latter is that production isn't set to begin until 2027, so we might be waiting a little while before we get to see more Star Trek movies.
