Tricycle rider jailed for 14 years for defiling a 3-year-old girl in Wa

A 29-year-old tricycle rider, Naah Mashood, has been sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a three-year-old girl at Tiegber in the Wa Municipality.
The Upper West Regional Police Command said the convict was arrested on February 24, 2026, by officers of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVSU) following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
According to a statement issued by the police on Tuesday, November 3, the police said Mashood had been engaged by the child’s parent to transport her to and from school.
However, on February 23, 2026, he allegedly lured the girl to an isolated location and sexually assaulted her inside his tricycle, locally known as a Cambuu.
Following investigations, he was first arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate Court before subsequently standing trial at the Wa High Court.
After a full trial, he was found guilty of defilement and, on October 30, 2026, was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by Justice Osei-Wusu.
In the statement, the Upper West Regional Police Command commended the officers involved in the investigation and prosecution, as well as all those who contributed to ensuring that justice was served.
The Command also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and take steps to ensure the safety of their children.
It encouraged members of the public to report suspected cases of child abuse and defilement to the nearest police station or DOVSU office for prompt action.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting children and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual offences are brought to justice.
