They can take heart, however, from a midweek Carabao Cup win over the Cottagers, where Eddie Nketiah’s first-half hit was enough to seal progression to the last eight. Their promising start in the Europa League is also cause for optimism.

Wins in the Premier League are sorely needed, though, and Sage will be able to buy himself plenty of credit if he can overcome Spurs in N17 this afternoon.
