Indonesia targets more Australian tourists beyond Bali

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is targeting more Australian tourists while promoting destinations beyond Bali and Jakarta through its “Go Beyond Ordinary” campaign in Sydney and Melbourne.
“We want to offer more diverse and high-quality travel experiences so Australian tourists explore more destinations in Indonesia,” Tourism Ministry Deputy for Marketing Ni Made Ayu Marthini said.
Australia remains one of Indonesia’s main tourism markets, supported by geographic proximity, direct flights and strong bilateral ties, Marthini said.
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 1,754,791 Australian tourist visits in 2025, making Australia Indonesia’s second-largest source market. Arrivals reached 864,750 through June 2026, up 6.29 percent.
The Tourism Ministry has set a target of 2.23 million Australian tourist visits this year.
The “Go Beyond Ordinary” campaign featured sales missions at Rydges World Square in Sydney on Aug. 5 and Oaks Melbourne on Market Hotel in Melbourne on Aug. 6.
The events brought Indonesian tourism businesses together with Australian travel companies to expand tour packages and develop commercial opportunities across Indonesian destinations.
The campaign promoted nature, cultural, marine, culinary and wellness experiences to encourage travelers to visit more destinations and spread tourism’s economic benefits among local communities.
The strategy also aims to extend visitor stays, increase average spending and strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness as a tourism destination.
The ministry partnered with tourism associations, Indonesian consulates in Sydney and Melbourne, Garuda Indonesia and Melbourne Airport for the sales missions.
Marthini said the meetings generated potential visits from 3,050 tourists, with estimated foreign-exchange earnings of US$4.4 million.
