Shailene Woodley's Stylist Slams "Rude" Comments About Emmys 2026 Look

Molly Ringwald Celebrates Secret Life "TV Daughter" Shailene Woodley After Emmys Win

Shailene Woodley’s stylist Karla Welch is addressing what some saw as a fault in her fashion judgement.

After Woodley arrived at the 2026 Emmys in a polarizing red carpet look, her stylist addressed the criticism.

“Love or hate something fine but it’s an opinion and it can even be a conversation” Welch wrote on Threads Sept. 15, “but being super rude and mean and taking glee from it, well that says a lot more about the mouths it’s coming from.”

The outfit in question arrived straight from Balenciaga’s F/W 26 haute couture collection and saw the Divergent alum dressed in oversized sequined trousers, a plunging blue tank top and maroon leather gloves that stretched above her elbows.

To top off the look, Welch—who also dressed Hannah Binder for the 78th annual ceremony and has worked with clients such as Sarah PaulsonTracee Ellis Ross and Olivia Wilde in the past—put Woodley in a multicolored statement necklace and a slicked back hairdo.

Though she rocked the ensemble for the entirety of the Mariska Hargitay-hosted event, The Fault in Our Stars alum opted for a switch ahead of Disney’s after-party at Vibiana in Los Angeles, swapping her tank top for a t-shirt repping the 1986 film Home of the Brave.

At the end of the Emmys, as with all award shows, people began to weigh in on the evening’s fashion—including Woodley’s look.

“Did she lose a bet?” one user wrote on X, while another added, “Her stylist hates her.”

But not everyone saw the look as a fashion faux pas. After all, one user replied to Welch’s Threads post, “She looked amazing!"

While some online critics saw her look as a fashion flub, Woodley walked into the Emmys already a winner, having taken home her first Emmy for Guest Actress in a Drama Series at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 6 for her role in season two of Paradise.

"I'm just stoked," the Big Little Lies actress told E! News in an exclusive interview at the Peacock Theatre after the win. "I just feel so lucky. I love what I do, and I never take it for granted."

"Every single time I get to walk onto a film set, it feels like a brand new opportunity with a new scope of things to learn and people to play off of and experiences to be had," she continued. "I love being a storyteller."
