Pitso keeps injured Kaizer Chiefs midfielder in Bafana Bafana camp

Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has decided to keep Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe in the camp.

This despite the injured suffered by the midfielder in his last match against Golden Arrows.

Maboe was already in Mosimane’s final squad when he sustained the ankle injury which forced Fernando da Cruz to replace him.

Nonetheless, Mosimane said Maboe has gone for a scan, and that the doctors warned the technical team to be careful with the player.

He is optimistic that Maboe will get a chance to represent Bafana Bafana again, especially because he still has three weeks with the team.

“He’s got a niggling ankle. You could see that the injury he was never even kicked by anybody,” Mosimane told reporters.

“So, it’s tender. The doctor has briefed me that we should be careful with him and give him a chance.

“We have a three-week camp. He’s gone for a scan, and that scan will tell us how far he is.

“He has worked hard to be in Bafana. He should be disappointed by the injury and no one kicked him. Sometimes it’s football. Let’s hope Lebo recovers,” added Mosimane.

BAFANA BAFANA’S NEXT THREE FIXTURES

Bafana Bafana will be at home against Guinea in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Saturday, 26 September.

Kick-off at Orlando Amstel Arena is at 15:00.

They will then fly to Egypt to face Eritrea on 30 September before playing an international friendly with the Pharaohs on 4 October.
