Two Black Bombers reach semifinals at IBA Africa Boxing Championships

Translate

Ghana’s Amadu Mohammed and Joseph “Jaguar” Commey have secured semifinal places at the 2026 IBA Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, guaranteeing themselves medals.

Mohammed advanced in the featherweight division (57kg) after his quarterfinal opponent suffered an injury in the opening round, forcing the referee to stop the contest.

Commey, competing in the light welterweight category (63.5kg), also progressed after securing a narrow 3-2 victory in his quarterfinal bout.

Their victories mean both boxers are assured of at least bronze medals, with the pair now targeting places in the final as Ghana seeks further success at the continental competition.

The progress of the two Black Bombers provides a positive start for Ghana at the championships, which have attracted a record 171 boxers, comprising 132 men and 39 women.

The competition is taking place in Kinshasa, which also hosted the 2024 edition, when 148 boxers participated.

The latest turnout represents the highest participation in the history of the Africa Elite Championships.
