Starboard Value sees significant upside in Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), viewing the chipmaker as undervalued following its acquisition of Qorvo (QRVO), Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The activist investor sees potential value in the companies’ complementary product portfolios and merger-related cost savings, as well as opportunities to improve margins, according to the report.
The combined company is targeting at least $500M in annual cost savings within three years. Management expects operating margins to reach 30%–35% within two to three years.
Skyworks (SWKS) completed the Qorvo combination on October 5, following an agreement announced last year that valued the combined business at ~$22B. Both companies make chips for smartphones and other electronic devices, while the merger expands Skyworks’ reach across automotive, industrial, defense, aerospace, and data center markets.
Starboard built its position in Qorvo in 2025 and pushed for operational improvements. Two directors appointed to Qorvo’s board with Starboard’s support, Chris Koopmans and Rick Clemmer, remain on the combined company’s board.
