For 60 years, Star Trek has been home to some of science fiction's most iconic characters, but few have left a greater impression than Captain James T. Kirk and his loyal first officer, Spock. Portrayed by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, respectively, the two became the heart of Star Trek: The Original Series, developing a friendship that helped define the franchise for generations.

While Kirk was known for his bold leadership and emotionally charged decision-making (not to mention his occasional disregard for protocol) Spock's unwavering commitment to logic provided the perfect counterbalance. Their relationship evolved throughout The Original Series and subsequent films, culminating in some of the franchise's most emotional moments, particularly Spock's sacrifice in The Wrath of Khan.

Both Shatner and Nimoy left an extraordinary legacy that continues to influence Star Trek today, with their characters being reimagined by new actors across various films and television series. Now, as the franchise celebrates its 60th anniversary, Kirk and Spock are officially being reunited once again in a highly anticipated new release arriving November 13.

Captain Kirk and Spock are officially reuniting on November 13, 2026, although their latest adventure won't be taking place on television or the big screen. Instead, the legendary Star Trek duo will return as part of Magic: The Gathering's upcoming Universes Beyond crossover, which features four Commander decks celebrating different corners of the science fiction franchise.

Of particular interest to fans of Star Trek: The Original Series is the new Landing Party Commander deck, which brings Kirk, Spock, and several other familiar faces from the original USS Enterprise crew together in one release.

The 100-card deck is primarily built around Commander Spock, who serves as its featured commander, although players can also choose Captain Kirk, Boldly Going as an alternative. This allows players to have both characters in the same deck, effectively reuniting William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy's iconic characters for another adventure.

Landing Party is an "exploration-focused" deck, with Spock's abilities allowing players to draw additional cards and potentially cast spells for free depending on the number of differently named lands they control. Meanwhile, Kirk's abilities revolve around the Starship Enterprise, offering a different approach to commanding.

Beyond these two legendary characters, Landing Party includes cards featuring several other recognizable members of the original crew, including Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, Chief Montgomery Scott, Pavel Chekov, and Dr. McCoy. There are also cards depicting Christopher Pike, Christine Chapel, the Shuttlecraft Galileo, and several iconic locations, including Vulcan and Earth.

Of course, Landing Party is only one of four Commander decks arriving as part of the November 13 crossover. The remaining three include Federation Fleet, led by Jean-Luc Picard; Klingon Fury, featuring Worf as its commander; and We Are the Borg, which puts players in control of the Borg Queen.

Each deck includes 100 cards, with 32 new-to-Magic cards, alongside several familiar reprints. Special Collector's Edition versions featuring surge foil treatments will also be available.

The larger Magic: The Gathering x Star Trek crossover officially launches on November 13, 2026, bringing decades of franchise history into the trading card game. For longtime fans of the original series, however, the chance to command Kirk, Spock, and their Enterprise crew together again may be one of its biggest attractions.
