Asian Games 2026: Gulveer Singh wins silver, becomes first Indian to win two medals in 10,000m

India’s Gulveer Singh clinched the silver medal in the men’s 10,000m at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 on Friday, adding another major international medal to his rapidly growing collection.

Gulveer remained in contention through the 25-lap race before finishing second to secure his second successive Asian Games medal in the event.

The result marked an improvement from Hangzhou 2023, where Gulveer had taken bronze behind compatriot Kartik Kumar, who won silver. That race had ended India’s 25-year wait for an Asian Games medal in the men’s 10,000m.

The medal also continued a strong 2026 season for the Indian distance runner. At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Gulveer became the first Indian man to win a 10,000m medal at the Games when he claimed silver in 27:49.78. He followed it with bronze in the 5,000m.

Gulveer had also established himself as Asia’s leading distance runner by winning both the 5,000m and 10,000m titles at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi.
